Brett Favre Really Retiring? and Shaq Joining Celtics...

So, Brett Favre came out today and told the Minnesota Vikings that he's retiring. Conveniently, training camp just started and he doesn't feel his surgically repaired ankle is "healthy enough" to play on.  Sources are saying that the Vikings are prepared to offer Favre more money and more time to reconsider joining for one last time. Yes, he says he's retiring, but we've been in this situation before. He's said time and time again that he's taken his last snap, but he always comes back for more. Reggie Bush twittered after he heard the news of Favre and said this: @reggie_bush Brett Favre supposed to make 13 mil this year. Enough said! We'll see him September 9th in the Superdome! I'd have to agree with Reggie, although he could still be recovering from the absence of Kim Kardashian in his life, which leaves me back to square one. Can Brett Favre really retire? As far as the value of fantasy players around him, they all plummet. Sidney Rice becomes an average number 2 wide receiver on most fantasy teams and Percy Harvin becomes even more irrelevant. Adrian Peterson will get more carries, but should remain the number 2 running back behind Chris Johnson on all boards. If I was a betting man, I'd put money on Favre returning. You can count on it, maybe.

In other news, Shaq is almost certainly joining the Celtics either tonight or tomorrow. That will bring the average age of the Celtics to somewhere around 45 years old. He will have to serve as a role player off the bench, which will be the first time Shaq has ever accepted a bench role on any team. With Kendrick Perkins rehabbing for the start of the season and Rasheed Wallace in retirement, the Celtics are in a desperate situation to sign a big man. The Eastern Conference is stronger than it's been for some time now and this may be the final run for the Celtics before they all apply for AARP memberships. This is it for now, be ready for NBA Rankings tomorrow, the 21-30 ranked teams will be mentioned.
